Tänään olin kävelyllä Alvorin kylästä dyyneille. Alvorin kylän edessä on upea hiekkadyyni alue, jolla risteilee sekä polkuja että rakennettuja kulkureittejä, joten siellä voi kävellä myös nousuveden aikaan.

Today I was walking starting from the village of Alvor towards the wonderful dunes. Ahead of Alvor is a wonderful dunes area crisscrossed by both paths and constructed footbridges, so you can walk there even during the high tide.

Suunnitelmani oli valokuvata sekä pikkulintuja pensaissa, tuulihaukka leijumassa että muutama kahlaaja.

My plan was to photograph small birds in the bushes, a kestrel hovering, and a few waders.

Mutta heti ensi metreillä kuulin ilmasta jotain ihmeellista suhinaa ja samassa huomasin riippuliitäjien laskupaikan olevan läheisellä rannalla.

But within the first few meters I heard a strange hissing sound in the air and at the same time I noticed that the hang glider landing site was on a nearby beach.

Sitten jatkoin kävelyä ja näin aidan pylväällä mustapäätaskun, joka näytti jotenkin surulliselta.

Then I continued walking and noticed an European stonechat sitting on a fence post that looked kind of sad.

Katsoessani taivaalle näin yksinäisen merimetson lentävä ylitseni.

Looking up at the sky, I saw a lone Great cormorant flying above me.

Poluilla käveli useita koiran ulkoiluttajia, pyöräilijöitä, reippaita kävelijöitä ja puhelimeen keskittyneitä joitakin vaeltajia :-).

There were several dog walkers, cyclists, brisk walkers, and some wanderers focused on their phones on the trails :-).

Tässä vaiheessa olin jo puolessa välissä niemeä ja kääntymässä kohti lähempänä lahtea kulkevaa rakennettua kävelysiltaa.

At this point I was already halfway across the headland and turning towards the constructed footbridge that ran closer to the bay.

Maisema kohti Alvoria näytti hienon aurinkoiselta.

The landscape towards Alvor looked beautifully sunny.

Tähän asti olin nähnyt tai edes kuullut harvinaisen vähän lintujen laulua, olisiko hieman viileä sää vähentänyt niiden liikkumista. Toivoin, että tilanne paranee loppumatkasta, kun olin lähempänä rantaa.

Up until now I had seen or even heard very few birds singing, perhaps the slightly cooler weather had reduced their movement. I hoped that the situation would improve towards the end of the trip, when I was walking closer to the beach.

Samassa huomasin silkkihaikaran selvästi kalastamassa pienessä joen uomassa.

At the same time, I noticed a Little egret clearly fishing in a small riverbed.

Ja hieman sen edessä näkyi kanervikossa liikettä. Sieltä tuli näkyviin karikukko, eikun niitä olikin viisi ihan pienellä alueella.

And a little ahead of it, there was movement in the heather. From there, a Ruddy turnstone appeared, and there were five of them in a very small area.

Mutta sitten satuin vilkaisemaan taakseni ja yllätyksekseni huomasin, että taivas oli mennyt pilveen ja selvästi sadealue oli lähestymässä.

But then I happened to glance behind me and to my surprise I noticed that the sky had become cloudy and it was clearly a rainy area approaching.

Hieman aloin kävellä nopeammin, mutta en kauas ehtinyt, kun mielenkiintoni suuntautui kohti muutamaa pikkulintua. Ne olivat 3 hemppoa, jotka hetkeksi laskeutuivat kanervikkoon ja melkein saman tien lensivät pois.

I started walking a little faster, but I didn’t get far when my interest turned to a few small birds. They were 3 Eurasian linnets that briefly landed on the heather and almost immediately flew away.

Samassa toinen parvi lintuja lensi paikalle ja pysähtyi hetkeksi kanervikkoon. Niitä oli varmaankin 10 ja ne olivat varpusia.

At the same time, another flock of birds flew over and stopped for a moment on the heather. There were probably 10 of them and they were House sparrows.

Mutta sitten alkoivat ensimmäiset vesipisarat tipahdella takilleni ja päätin kävellä nopeasti takaisin autolle. Minun kuitenkin piti vielä parin kuvan ottamisen ajaksi pysähtyä.

But then the first drops of water started to fall on my jacket and I decided to walk quickly back to the car. I still had to stop to take a couple of pictures.

Kuten voit nähdä kuvista, sää alkoi olla jo todella pilvinen, tihkusade oli alkanut ja nyt oli aika pistää juoksuksi autolle, etten aivan täysin kastuisi.

As you can see from the pictures, the weather was starting to get really cloudy, it had started to drizzle and now it was time to go for a run in the car so I wouldn’t get completely wet.

Minun pitää kyllä todeta, että todennäköisesti sateinen sää tällä kertaa teki sen, että pääosin linnut pysyivät poissa näkyviltä. Yleensä, kun täällä kävelee niin saan koko ajan kääntyillä puolelta toiselle ja kuvata lintuja.

I have to admit that the rainy weather this time probably meant that the birds remained mostly out of sight. Usually, when you walk here, you can turn from side to side all the time and photograph birds.

Keskellä niemeä on pensaikkoa ja hiekkaisia dyynejä pikkulinnuille. Yleensä täällä näkee aina tuulihaukan lepattamassa sekä kun kääntyy rannalle, niin kanervikossa on paljon pieniä joen lahtia, joissa kahlaajat viihtyvät. Täytyy toivoa, että seuraavalla kerralla taas onnistaa paremmin.

In the middle of the headland there is scrub and sandy dunes for small birds. Usually you can always see a Kestrel fluttering here and when you turn onto the shore, there are many small river bays in the heather where waders enjoy themselves. I have to hope that next time I will have better luck.
