Kävin huollattamassa autoni Vantaan Kaivokselassa ja huollon aikana ehdin tehdä tunnin mittaisen lintujen tarkkailulenkin Vetokannaksen uimarannalle ja Vantaanjoen koirauimarannalle.

I went to have my car maintenanced in Kaivoksela, Vantaa, and during the service I managed to take an hour-long bird watching walk to the Vetokannas swimmingbeach and the Vantaanjoki dog swimmingbeach.

Olen aiempinakin vuosina huollon aikana tällä uimarannalla käynyt kävelyllä, mutta nyt otin kamerani mukaan ja kävelin hieman laajemman reitin eli Vantaanjoen rantaan asti.

Lammella todennäköisesti jopa pesii telkkä ja haapana tai sitten ne muuten haluavat viettää aikaa lammella, sillä niitä olen nähnyt joka vuosi.

I have walked along this beach during maintenance in previous years, but this time I took my camera with me and walked a slightly wider route, all the way to the shore of the Vantaanjoki River.

The pond probably even has a Common goldeneye and a Eurasian Wigeon nesting, or they just want to spend time at the pond, because I have seen them every year.

Tänä vuonna kävi hyvin, sillä paikalla oli kaksi varsin vauhdikasta koiras telkkää, jotka välillä lensivät lammen toisesta päästä toiseen ja sitten ajoivat toisiaan takaa.

This year it went well, as there were two very fast male Common goldeneyes, who sometimes flew from one end of the pond to the other and then chased each other.

Ensin ne lähtivät lentoon.

First they took off.

Sitten laskeutuivat.

Then they landed.

Sitten ne kiihdyttivät vauhtia.

Then they picked up speed.

Ja lopuksi toinen melkein puri edellä menevän telkän pyrstösulat irti.

And finally, the other one almost bit off the tail feathers of the one in front.

Tämä sama toistui kolme kertaa, joten lammella oli varsin vauhdikasta seurattavaa.

This same thing happened three times, so there was quite a lot of action to watch on the pond.

Valokuvatessani telkkiä, kuulin ääntä läheltäni ja kun katsoin ympärilleni sekä vielä alaspäin, huomasin varpusen tulleen minusta noin 10 metrin päähän nauttimaan uimarannan hiekasta. Se ei huolestunut ollenkaan vaikka kyyristyin ja valokuvasin sitä, taisi olla linssilude 🙂

While photographing the Common goldeneye, I heard a sound near me and when I looked around and even down, I noticed a House sparrow had come about 10 meters away from me to enjoy the sand on the beach. It didn’t seem to be bothered at all even though I crouched down and photographed it, I guess it was a lens flare 🙂

Sitten lähdin kohti metsää ja Vantaanjokea.

En päässyt kuin 30 metriä eteenpäin, kun läheiseen pensaaseen lennähti räkättirastas. Se siinä katseli minua ja päästi myös melko lähelle eli sain siitäkin muutaman hyvän lähikuvan.

Then I headed towards the forest and the Vantaa River.

I had only gotten about 30 meters further when a Fieldfare flew into a nearby bush. It was watching me and also let me get quite close, so I got a few good close-ups of it.

Vetokannas on kunnan uimaranta ja linnut ovat selvästi oppineet, että ihmisiä ei niin paljon tarvitse pelätä. Itse olin paikalla noin 7.30 aamulla, mutta siitä huolimatta siellä oli jo kymmenkunta aamu-uimaria. Kuinka paljon uimareita onkaan paikalla, kun päivällä on lämmintä ja aurinko paistaa.

Vetokannas is a municipal beach and the birds have clearly learned that they don’t have to be afraid of people so much. I was there at about 7:30 in the morning, but despite that, there were already about a dozen morning swimmers there. How many swimmers are there when the day is warm and the sun is shining?

Pääsin kuitenkin metsän siimekseen ja isojen kuusien varjossa lähellä Vantaanjokea kuulin, kun talitintit lauleskelivat. Pienen etsiskelyn jälkeen huomasin ne ja olivatpa somasti keskenään. Olisiko ollut tuore pariskunta halailemassa?

However, I reached the edge of the forest and in the shade of large spruce trees near the Vantaanjoki River I heard the Great tits singing. After a little searching I spotted them and they were all snuggling together. Could it have been a newlywed couple cuddling?

Vantaanjoella en sitten nähnyt mitään, mutta äänien perusteella ympäröivässä metsässä oli pajulintu, mustarastas, pensaskerttu, metsäkirvinen, sinitiainen ja punarinta.

I didn’t see anything on the Vantaanjoki River, but based on the sounds in the surrounding forest, there were a Willow warbler, a Common blackbird, a Common whitethroat, a Tree Pipit, an Eurasian blue tit, and an European robin.

Paluumatkalla ollessani jo melkein takaisin uimarannalla, niin edessä olevaan puuhun lensi peippo ja lauloi sydämensä kyllyydestä upeita säveliä.

On the way back, when I was almost back at the beach, a Common chaffinch flew into the tree in front of me and sang beautiful melodies to its heart’s content.

Viimeisenä havaintona näin, kun sepelkyyhky laskeutui koivun latvaan ja jäi sinne ihailemaan maisemia.

As a final observation, I saw a Common wood pigeon land on the top of a birch tree and stay there to admire the scenery.

Kuvasta huomaa myös miten suureksi koivun lehdet ovat jo kasvaneet, kesä lähenee.

The picture also shows how big the birch leaves have already grown, summer is approaching.

Matkalla tein seuraavat havainnot:

3 kalalokki, 3 peippo, 2 haapana, 2 telkkä, 2 mustarastas, 2 räkättirastas, 2 talitiainen, 2 pensaskerttu, pajulintu, sinitiainen, punarinta, hemppo, sinisorsa, metsäkirvinen ja sepelkyyhky.

During the trip I made the following observations:

3 Common gull, 3 Common chaffinch, 2 Eurasian wigeon, 2 Common goldeneye, 2 Common blackbird, 2 Fieldfare, 2 Great tit, 2 Common whitethroat, Willow warbler, Eurasian blue tit, European robin, Common linnet, Mallard, Tree Pipit and Common wood pigeon.
