Sunnuntaina 25.5.2025 oli taas aika vierailla Tampereen Iidesjärvellä. Iidesjärvellä yleensä vierailen kahdessa paikassa: Iidesjärven lintutornissa ja Nekalan matonpesupaikalla, joissa molemmissa on omat lintulajinsa. Molemmissa paikoissa on myös se hyvä puoli, että siellä on aina lintuja.

On Sunday 25.5.2025 it was time to visit Tampere Iidesjärvi again. In Iidesjärvi I usually will visit two places: the bird tower of Iidesjärvi and the Nekala carpet washing place, both of which have their own species of birds. Both places also have the good side that there are always birds there.

Ensin käännyin Nekalantieltä pienelle tielle, joka johtaa lintutornin lähellä olevalle parkkipaikalle.

First, I turned off Nekalantie onto a small road that leads to a parking lot near the birdwatching tower.

Parkkipaikalta lähtiessä kohti lintutornia tulet portaille, joita laskeudut alas rannan pitkospuille. Niitä pitkin sitten noin 100 metriä oikealle ja olet lintutornilla.

Kävellessäni kuulin jo pensaikossa punavarpusen, satakielen ja pajulinnun laulut vaikka yhtään lintua en nähnyt.

Lintutorniin päästyäni vain noin 5 minuutin kuluttua lahden oikealle puolelle laskeutui kaksi kurkea, jotka sitten huutelivat äänekkäästi seuraavan parinkymmenen minuutin ajan.

As you leave the parking lot towards the bird tower, you will come to the stairs that you descend down to the boardwalks. Then follow them about 100 meters to the right and you will be at the bird tower.

While walking, I could already hear the songs of the Common rosefinch, Thrush nightingale and Willow warbler in the bushes, although I did not see any birds.

After reaching the bird tower, only about 5 minutes later, two Common cranes landed on the right side of the bay, where they then sang loudly for the next twenty minutes.

Lahdella näkyi silkkiuikkuja ja pari telkkää. Ilmassa lensivät tervapääskyt, naurulokit sekä yksi laulujoutsen lensi tornin yli ja laskeutui takana olevalle pellolle syömään. Ruokokerttunen lauloi ruovikon reunalla.

Aamu oli hieman viileä, joten paikallaan ei kannattanut olla liian kauaa, niinpä lähdin tutkimaan mitä lahden vasemman rannan pitkospuita kävelemällä tulee vastaan.

There were some Great crested grebes and a couple of Common goldeneyes in the bay. There were Common swifts and Black-backed gulls flying in the air, and one Whooper swan flew over the tower and landed in the field behind to feed. A Sedge warbler sang at the edge of the reeds.

The morning was a bit cool, so it wasn’t worth staying still for too long, so I went to explore what I could find by walking along the boardwalks on the left bank of the bay.

Ensimmäisenä koivun latvassa lauloi pajulintu omaa melankolista lauluaan ja vähän matkan päässä peippo taas lauloi iloisesti. Haapanan ääni kuului pensaiden takaa järven rannasta. Punarinta lauleskeli lähempänä peltoa.

First, in the birch treetop, a Willow warbler sang its own melancholy song, and a little further away, a Common chaffinch sang happily. The voice of a Eurasian wigeon could be heard from behind the bushes on the shore of the lake. An European robin sang closer to the field.

Sitten pääsin kohtaan, jossa puu oli kaatunut pitkospuiden yli ja matka katkesi. Samalla hämmästyin siritystä, joka alkoi kuulua noin 10 metrin päässä edestä pensaikosta. Käytin äänitunnistussovelluksia ja ne kertoivat äänen kuuluvan viitasirkkalinnulle. Tätä lintua en ollut aiemmin elämässäni kuullut saatikka nähnyt, enkä nähnyt sitä nytkään. Oli hieno hetki taas havaita uusi lintu.

Then I reached a point where a tree had fallen over the trees and the path was cut off. At the same time, I was surprised by a chirping sound that started to be heard about 10 meters away from the bushes in front. I used voice recognition apps and they told me that the sound belonged to a River warbler. I had never heard or seen this bird before in my life, and I haven’t seen it again. It was a great moment to spot a new bird again.

Lintutornilla havaitsin: 15 naurulokki, 13 tervapääsky, 5 silkkiuikku, 4 pajulintu, 3 sinitiainen, 2 kurki, 2 telkkä, 2 ruokokerttunen, laulujoutsen, haapana, mustarastas, punavarpunen, satakieli, talitiainen, peippo ja viitasirkkalintu.

At the bird tower I observed: 15 Black-headed gull, 13 Common swift, 5 Great crested grebe, 4 Willow warbler, 3 Blue tit, 2 Common crane, 2 Common goldeneye, 2 Sedge warbler, Whooper swans, Eurasian wigeon, Common blackbird, Common rosefinch, Thrush nightingale, Great tit, Common chaffinch and River warbler.

Palasin parkkipaikalle ja sitten oli aika vaihtaa hieman paikkaa eli ajaa noin pari kilometriä eteenpäin Nekalan matonpesupaikalle.

I returned to the parking lot and then it was time to change places a bit, driving about a couple of kilometers further to the Nekala carpet washing place.

Auton voi pysäköidä matonpesupaikalle ja voit ensin kävellä matonpesupaikan läpi rantaan, jossa tällä kertaa näkyi silkkiuikku hautomassa pesällään ja nokikana uiskenteli siitä oikealla.

You can park your car at the carpet washing station and first walk through the carpet washing station to the shore, where this time a Great crested grebe was seen brooding in its nest and a Eurasian coot was swimming to the right of it.

Matonpesupaikalta lähtee lähellä rantaa reitti kohti Iidesjärven länsipäätä, jonne tulee matkaa runsas kilometri.

A trail starts near the shore from the carpet washing station towards the western end of Lake Iidesjärvi, which is just over a kilometer away.

Käveltyäni noin 200 metriä eteeni tuli hauska tilanne, jossa kävelin samaan suuntaan variksen kanssa ja se tuntui miettivän, kummalla puolella tietä kannattaisi kävellä.

After walking about 200 meters, I came across a funny situation where I was walking in the same direction as a Crow and it seemed to be wondering which side of the road to walk on.

Siitä hieman eteenpäin ruokokerttunen nousi ilmaan ja laskeutui sitten läheisen pensaan latvaan ja lauloi muille olevansa tämän reviirin omistaja.

A little further on, a Sedge warbler rose into the air and then landed on the top of a nearby bush, singing to the others that it was the owner of this territory.

Kävellessäni eteenpäin järvellä näkyi useita silkkiuikkuja, nokikanoja, muutama tukkasotka ja sinisorsa. Ilmassa järven päällä lenteli naurulokkeja, kalalokkeja ja kalatiiroja.

Kaksi kalatiiraa näytti kuitenkin nauttivan matkustamisesta jonkun puunkappaleen päällä.

As I walked along the lake, I saw several Great crested grebes, Coots, a few Tufted ducks and Mallards. In the air above the lake, there were Black-headed gulls, Common gulls and Common terns.

However, two Common terns seemed to enjoy traveling on a piece of wood.

Saavuin pienen aukion laidalle ja kuuntelin hetken. Pensaissa lauloivat räkättirastaat, mustarastaat, tiltaltti ja sitten taas ääni, jota en tunnistanut. Äänisovelluksen avulla sain selville, että ääni kuuluu viitakerttuselle ja sitten yritin löytää sen pensaiden sisältä. Onnistuin kuitenkin saamaan kuvan vain sen päästä ja nokasta.

I reached the edge of a small clearing and listened for a while. In the bushes, there were Fieldfares, Common blackbirds, a Common chiffchaff, and then another sound I didn’t recognize. Using a sound app, I found out that the sound belonged to a Blyth’s reed warbler and then I tried to find it in the bushes. However, I only managed to get a picture of its head and beak.

Sitten pääsin paikalle, jossa on nuotiopaikka ja istahdin syömään eväät. Vain pari minuuttia myöhemmin piti eväiden syönti keskeyttää, kun noin 3 metrin päässä olevaan koivun runkoon lensi käpytikka, josta se lennähti edessäni olevan kepin nokkaan ja katseli siinä hetken ympärilleen, josta sitten lensi kymmenen metrin päähän pensaan rungolle ja sitten hetken päästä lähti metsään.

Then I reached a place with a campfire and sat down to eat my lunch. Just a couple of minutes later, I had to interrupt my lunch when a Great spotted woodpecker flew into a birch trunk about 3 meters away, from where it flew to the beak of a stick in front of me and looked around for a moment, from where it then flew ten meters away to the trunk of a bush and then a moment later left for the forest.

Sitten jokin kahisi rannassa noin viiden metrin päässä ja hetken aikaa sain silmilläni etsiä, mikä siellä on, kunnes linnun ääriviivat alkoivat näkyä. Sinisorsa naaras se sieltä uiskenteli ohitseni. Olipa hyvä naamiointi.

Then something rustled on the shore about five meters away and for a while I needed to use my eyes to search for what was there, until the outline of the bird began to appear. It was a female Mallard swimming past me. What a good camouflage.

Sitten jatkoin vielä matkaa järven länsipäähän, jossa kuuntelin hetken tiltalttia ja todennäköisesti lähelläni oli mustarastaan pesä, sillä niin lähellä mustarastas koiras ja naaras lentelivät. Pensaskerttu lauloi pensaassa ja järvellä uiskenteli sinisorsa pariskunta sekä silkkiuikku raaputteli vatsaansa.

Then I continued on to the western end of the lake, where I listened to a Common chiffchaff for a while and there was probably a Commom blackbird nest nearby, because a male and female blackbird were flying so close. A Common whitethroat was singing in the bush and a pair of Mallards were swimming on the lake and a Great crested grebe was scratching its belly.

Paluumatkalla kohti parkkipaikkaa, eteeni hyppäsi vielä orava. Mutta valitettavasti se näytti menettäneen jostain syystä pääosan hännästään. Harmi juttu.

On the way back to the parking lot, a squirrel jumped in front of me. But unfortunately, it seemed to have lost most of its tail for some reason. Too bad.

Matonpesupaikan polulla havaitsin: 19 silkkiuikku, 10 nokikana, 9 naurulokki, 7 kalalokki, 5 kalatiira, 5 räkättirastas, 4 varis, 3 tukkasotka, 3 mustarastas, 2 sinisorsa, 2 haapana, 2 harakka, 2 ruokokerttunen, 2 sinitiainen, tiltaltti, käpytikka, lehtokerttu, pensaskerttu, viitakerttunen, satakieli ja pajulintu.

On the path to the carpet washing site I observed: 19 Great crested grebe, 10 Eurasian coot, 9 Black-headed Gull, 7 Common Gull, 5 Common Tern, 5 Fieldfare, 4 Carrion crow, 3 Tufted duck, 3 Common blackbird, 2 Mallard, 2 Eurasian Wigeon, 2 Eurasian Magpie, 2 Sedge Warbler, 2 Eurasian blue Tit, Common chiffchaff, Great spotted woodpecker, Garden Warbler, Common whitethroat, Blyth’s reed warbler, Thrush nightingale and Willow warbler.

Nämä kaksi paikkaa olivat taas varmat paikat havaita useita eri lintulajeja. Ensi vuonna taas uudelleen.

These two places were again sure places to spot several different bird species. Will do it again next year.
