Kalalokki Common gull 20260528 Tampere

Share

Vietin viikon 22 Tampereella ja ehdin kolmena päivänä tutustua paikallisiin lintuihin.

I spent week 22 in Tampere and had three days to explore the local birdlife.

24.5. kävelin ympäri Lapinniemeä, josta on todella hienot näköalat Näsijärvelle.

On May 24, I walked around Lapinniemi, which offers truly magnificent views of Lake Näsijärvi.

Tampere Lapinniemi

Lapinniemessä on melko iso satama, joten myös siellä näkee lintuja, esim. haarapääskyjä, lokkeja ja tiiroja.

Lapinniemi has a fairly large harbor, so you can also see birds there, such as barn swallows, gulls and terns.

Sataman puolelta siirryin Näsijärven ulapan puolelle ja siellä kävellessäni minua vastaan asteli yksi kalalokki todella arvokkaasti. Katso miten hienosti jalka ojentuu eteen.

From the harbor, I then crossed over to the open waters of Lake Näsijärvi, and as I was walking there, a Common gull walked toward me with great dignity. Look how elegantly it extends its leg forward.

That evening, the wind was blowing quite strongly from Lake Näsijärvi toward the shore; it was almost hard to stay on my feet, but it was still nice to watch a single seagull bobbing on the waves, seemingly unfazed by the fairly large waves around it. Unfortunately, the wind kept the smaller birds hidden.

Havaitut linnut: 3 kalalokki, 2 haarapääsky, räkättirastas, sinisorsa ja sinitiainen.

Birds observed: 3 Common gull, 2 Barn swallow, Fieldfare, Mallard and Eurasian blue tit.

On May 26, it was time to visit the birdwatching tower at the eastern end of Lake Iidesjärvi and the nature trail that starts there.

Tampere Iidesjärvi Lintutorni / Bird watching tower

Saavuin lintutornin vieressä olevalle parkkipaikalle ja heti minua tervehti arvokkaasti kävelevä räkättirastas. Onkohan tämä uusi Tampereen lintujen kävelytyyli?

I pulled into the parking space next to the birdwatching tower, and right away I was greeted by a Fieldfare striding along with an air of dignity. I wonder if this is the new way birds walk in Tampere?

From the birdwatching tower, it was nice to look out over Lake Iidesjärvi and listen to the birds singing in the nearby bushes—such as the Sedge warbler.

It was really nice to watch a few Common swifts flying quite close to the tower, but they’re such fast flyers that I didn’t manage to get a decent photo of them this time.

In the cove in front of the bird tower, Black-headed gulls, Common terns, a Whooper swan and a couple of Gadwalls were swimming and flying around.

Kuten aiemmillakin kerroilla, tällä tornilla on aina helppo havaita useita eri lintulajeja eli siinä mielessä tätä kannattaa pitää ns. vakio vierailupaikkana.

As on previous occasions, it’s always easy to spot several different bird species at this tower, so in that sense, it’s worth keeping this as a so-called regular visiting place.

Tornilta lähdin seuraamaan vasemmalta lähteviä pitkospuita. Polku kulkee isohkojen puiden ja tiheiden rantapensaiden välissä ja toukokuussa ilma on täynnä juuri muuttaneiden lintujen reviirihuutoja. Erityisesti äänessä olivat punarinnat, talitiaiset, sinitiaiset ja peipot.

From the tower, I set off along the boardwalk to the left. The trail winds through large trees and dense shore bushes; in May, the air was filled with the territorial calls of birds that had just arrived. The European robins, Great tits, Eurasian blue tits, and Common chaffinches were particularly vocal.

Kävelin noin 500 metrin lenkin ja palasin takaisin parkkipaikalle, josta siirryin autolla Nekalan matonpesupaikan rantaan.

I walked about 500 meters and returned to the parking space, from where I then drove to the shore at the Nekala carpet-washing site.

Tampere Nekalan matonpesupaikka / place to wash carpets

Matonpesupaikan rannassa ihailin hetken silkkiuikun pesän rakentamista.

On the shore near the carpet-washing spot, I spent a moment watching a Great crested grebe build its nest. Just a few aquatic plants piled together—and you could call that a nest. The male and female Great crested grebes look so alike that I can’t tell which one built the nest and which one was swimming around and watching the process from nearby.

Matonpesupaikalta lähtee leveähkö polku noin kilometrin päässä olevaa Kurjenpuistoa kohti. Reitti on hieno, sillä siinä on mäntymetsää, lehtimetsää, pensaikkoa sekä järvenrantaa yhdistettynä moniin eri lajin lintuhavaintoihin. Täällä on erittäin helppo varsinkin keväällä kuulla erilaisia kerttuja ja muita pensaissa viihtyviä pikkulintuja.

From carpet-washing spot, a fairly wide path leads towards Kurjenpuisto, which is about a kilometre away. It’s a lovely route, as it takes you through pine forest, deciduous woodland, scrub and along the lakeshore, whilst offering the chance to spot many different species of bird. It is very easy here, especially in spring, to hear various warblers and other small birds that make their homes in the bushes.

Jostain syystä räkättirastaita oli tämänkin polun varrella useita ja yhdestä ylilennosta sain kivan kuvan.

For some reason, there were quite a few Fieldfares along this path too, and I managed to get a nice photo of one as it flew overhead.

Reitin varrella Iidesjärvelle avautuvista lintunäkymistä voin todeta, että kolme lajia on hyvin edustettuna: naurulokki, kalatiira ja silkkiuikku.

When the views of Lake Iidesjärvi came into view from time to time, I could see that three species were well represented: the Black-headed gull, the Common tern and the Great crested grebe.

Aikaa tällä polulla edestakaisin käveltynä meni noin 2 tuntia.

It took about 2 hours to walk up and down this path.

Kaikkiaan havaitsin tällä polulla: 7 naurulokki, 5 räkättirastas, 4 kalatiira, 4 silkkiuikku, 4 telkkä, 3 harmaasorsa, 3 nokikana, 2 haapana, 2 pajulintu, 2 ruokokerttunen, 2 viherpeippo, hernekerttu, mustapääkerttu, mustarastas, peippo, pensaskerttu, punarinta, satakieli, sepelkyyhky, sinitiainen, talitiainen ja varis.

All in all, I spotted the following on this trail: 7 Black-headed gull, 5 Fieldfare, 4 Common tern, 4 Great crested grebe, 4 Common goldeneye, 3 Gadwall, 3 Eurasian coot, 2 Eurasian Wigeon, 2 Willow warbler, 2 Sedge warbler, 2 European greenfinch, Lesser Whitethroat, Eurasian blackcap, Common blackbird, Common chaffinch, Common whitethroat, European robin, Common nightingale, Common wood pigeon, Eurasian blue tit, Great tit and Carrion crow.

28.5. oli sitten vuorossa Lentävänniemi ja siellä Suomensaari.

On 28 May, it was the turn of Lentävänniemi and, there, Suomensaari.

I started my tour at Lentävänniemi harbour, but there was only one Common goldeneye there. A beautiful bird, but this time I wanted to see something else as well.

Auton keula kohti Suomensaaren parkkipaikkaa.

The front of the car is heading towards the Suomensaari car park.

Suomensaari on melko pieni saari, polku sen ympäri on noin 800 metriä pitkä. Se vaatii kuitenkin hyvät kengät ja on mielestäni melko vaativa käveltävä, sillä paikoin polku on kapea ja siellä on paljon puiden juuria, mitä pitää väistellä.

Suomensaari is a fairly small island; the path round it is about 800 metres long. However, it requires good footwear and, in my opinion, is quite a challenging walk, as the path is narrow in places and there are lots of tree roots that you have to dodge.

The most interesting sighting was a male Red-breasted merganser swimming nearby.

After I’d walked round the island (about 45 minutes) and returned to my accommodation to see what photos I’d managed to take, I realised that the nesting Common gulls had been quite well represented, so I’ve put together a few pictures below. As you can see, they can nest in quite exposed spots, and you can find a Common gull’s nest even on top of a small rock or islet.

Lentävänniemessä havaitut linnut: 9 kalalokki, 3 varis, meriharakka, mustarastas, pajulintu, peippo, räkättirastas, silkkiuikku, talitiainen, telkkä ja tukkakoskelo.

Birds observed at Lentävänniemi: 9 Common gull, 3 Carrion crow, Eurasian oystercatcher, Common blackbird, Willow warbler, Common chaffinch, Fieldfare, Great crested grebe, Great tit, Common goldeneye and Red-breasted merganser.

Tampereen tämän kertaisista lintupaikoista Iidesjärvi oli paras eli sieltä löytyi useampia lajeja kuin muista paikoista joissa vierailin.

Of the birding spots visited in Tampere on this occasion, Iidesjärvi was the best – in other words, more species were spotted there than at the other locations.
