Viime viikolla Armacão de Perassa, keskustan itäpuolelle, avattiin uusi kävelysilta kohti Salgadosta. Sillan pituus on 225 metriä ja kokonaispituus kävelylle Salgadosiin on 3,5 kilometriä.

Last week, a new pedestrian bridge towards Salgados was opened in Armacão de Pera, east of the city center. The bridge is 225 meters long and the total length of the walk to Salgados is 3.5 kilometers.

Portugal News lehdessä oli asiasta artikkeli, jonka perusteella päätin lähteä katsomaan siltaa.

There was an article about it in Portugal News, which made me decide to go see the bridge.

Kävin tutustumassa siihen ja totesin sen vallan mainioksi kävelykohteeksi. Ja myös lintujen havainnointiin se sopii hyvin, sillä siellä löytyi kahlaajia ja vesilintuja mukavasti.

I went to explore it and found it to be a great place to walk. And it’s also great for bird watching, as there were plenty of waders and waterfowl there.

Lähdin liikkeelle Armacão de Peran puolelta, sopivasti parkkipaikan vierestä kohti Salgadosta.

I started from the Armacão de Pera side, conveniently next to the parking lot, towards Salgado.

Sillalla ei tarvinnut kävellä kuin 50 metriä, kun piti jo pysähtyä kuvaamaan harmaasorsa pariskuntaa ja niiden lähellä kävellyttä epäsuhtaista pariskuntaa: pitkäjalka ja rantasipi. Aika hauska pari 🙂

I only had to walk 50 meters on the bridge before we had to stop to take pictures of a pair of Mallard ducks and an odd-looking pair walking nearby: a Black-winged stilt and a Common sandpiper. Quite a funny couple 🙂

Lähipensaikkoon lennähti harakka.

An Eurasian magpie flew into a nearby bush.

Näiden kuvien jälkeen pääsin jatkamaan matkaa, mutta jo 30 metrin jälkeen ”jouduin” taas pysähtymään kuvaamaan pitkäjalkoja.

After these pictures, I was able to continue my journey, but after only 30 meters I ”had” to stop again to photograph the Black-winged stilts.

Tällä kertaa pitkäjalan edellä käveli punajalkaviklo.

This time, a Common redshank walked ahead of the Black-winged stilt.

Katselin haarapääskyjä ja räystäspääskyjä, jotka hakivat hiekkaa rannasta ja todennäköisesti käyttävät sen pesien rakentamiseen.

I watched Barn swallows and House martins foraging for sand on the beach and probably using it to build nests.

Etelänharmaalokkeja lensi yläpuolella koko ajan. Kauempana rannalla näkyi pieniä kahlaajia, joita en saanut tunnistettua. Sinisorsa emo kuljetti 11 poikasen parvea joen toiselta reunalta toiselle.

Yellow-legged gulls were flying overhead the whole time. Further along the shore, I could see small waders that I couldn’t identify. A mother Mallard was transporting a flock of 11 chicks from one side of the river to the other.

Pääsin sillan toiseen päähän ja käännyin takaisin.

I reached the other end of the bridge and turned back.

Kun jo lähestyin Armacão de Peran puoleista päätä, niin parvi kahlaajia lensi aivan vierestä ohi.

As I approached the end towards Armacão de Pera, a flock of waders flew right past.

Kyseessä oli pulmussirri parvi. Se lenteli melkein 10 minuuttia edestakaisin sillan lähellä ja otin parvesta noin 100 kuvaa.’

It was a flock of Sanderling. It flew back and forth for almost 10 minutes near the bridge and I took about 100 photos of the flock.

Sitten yksi niistä päätti laskeutua aivan sillan lähelle. Kun silta on noin 2 metrin korkeudella rannan tasosta, niin pääsin/jouduin kuvaamaan lintua melkein päältä.

Then one of them decided to land right next to the bridge. As the bridge is about 2 meters above the shore, I was able/had to photograph the bird almost from above.

Lopulta näytti, että se katsoi minua ja totesi mielessään, että eiköhän tuo kuvaaminen jo riitä. Ymmärsin yskän ja lähdin kohti auton parkkipaikkaa.

Finally, it seemed to look at me and decide that maybe taking pictures was now enough. I understood the case and headed towards the car park.

Seuraavalla kerralla pitänee kävellä koko 3,5 km reitti Salgadoksen hienolle lintukosteikolle ja katsoa mitä loppu 3 km tuo tullessaan.

Next time I should probably walk the entire 3.5 km route to the beautiful bird wetland of Salgados and see what the remaining 3 km brings.

Nämä linnut havaitsin tällä noin 500 metrin menopaluu siltaretkellä: 30 pulmussirri, 16 sinisorsa, 9 etelänharmaalokki, 5 varpunen, 7 pitkäjalka, 3 haarapääsky, 3 harmaasorsa, 2 räystäspääsky, 2 liejukana, 2 heinäkerttu, nokikana, rantasipi ja punajalkaviklo.

These are the birds I spotted on this approximately 500 meter round trip across the bridge: 30 Sanderling, 16 Mallard, 9 Yellow-legged gull, 5 House sparrow, 7 Black-winged stilt, 3 Barn swallow, 3 Gadwall, 2 House Martin, 2 Common moorhen, 2 Zitting cisticola, Eurasian Coot, Common sandpiper and Common redshank.
