24.4.2025 lähdin aamu kahdeksalta, lämpötila +1 astetta ajamaan kohti Nurmijärven Lepsämää ja siellä Isoniityn peltojen tulva-aluetta.

On April 24, 2025, I set off at eight in the morning, the temperature was +1 degrees, to drive towards Lepsämä in Nurmijärvi and the floodplain of the Isoniitty fields there.

Tänä keväänä siellä oli mahdollisuus nähdä isoja hanhiparvia, jotka eivät edes mahdu yhteen kuvaan. Alla panoraamakuva neljästä eri kuvasta yhdistettynä.

This spring there was a chance to see large flocks of geese that couldn’t even fit in one picture. Below is a panoramic image of four different pictures combined.

Myös kaksi kurkea laskeutui pellolle laulamaan.

Two cranes also landed in the field to sing.

Oli melko kylmä seisoa tien varressa kolmessa eri paikassa, vaikka olin vain 15 min kussakin kohteessa, katso paikat yläkuvasta. Samassa kuvassa myös lintujen sijainti pellolla.

Noin 30 valkoposkihanhea lensi läheltä ja laskeutui lepäämään hetkeksi muuttomatkallaan pohjoiseen paikalla jo olleiden parvien lisäksi. Myös yksi laulujoutsen liittyi seuraan.

It was quite cold standing by the road in three different places, even though I was only at each location for 15 minutes, see the locations in the photo above. The same photo also shows the location of the birds in the field.

About 30 barnacle geese flew nearby and landed to rest for a while, in addition to the flocks already there on their migration north. One whooper swan also joined the group.

Yhtäkkiä puiden takaa tuli pieni lintu, joka lennettyään lähemmäksi osoittautui tuulihaukaksi, joka sitten jatkoi matkaansa takanani olevaa metsää kohti.

Suddenly, a small bird came from behind the trees, which upon flying closer turned out to be a kestrel, which then continued its journey towards the forest behind me.

Kaikenkaikkiaan havaitsin täällä: 250 metsähanhi, 250 valkoposkihanhi, 150 tundrahanhi, 13 naakka, 12 töyhtöhyyppä, 9 suokukko, 9 kalalokki, 7 valkoviklo, 4 sinisorsa, 4 kiuru, 3 kurki, laulujoutsen, kuovi ja tuulihaukka.

In total, I observed here: 250 Bean goose, 250 Barnacle goose, 150 Greater white-fronted goose, 13 Western jackdaw, 12 Northern lapwing, 9 Ruff, 9 Common gull, 7 Common greenshank, 4 Mallards, 4 Eurasian skylark, 3 Common crane, Whooper swan, Eurasian Curlew and Kestrel.

Sitten ajoin tutulle paikalle Tuusulan Rantamolle (aiempi juttu), jossa lämpötila oli noussut jo +4 asteeseen. Aurinko kuitenkin lämmitti mukavasti.

Siellä ei ollut kovin paljon lintuja, mutta oikealla olevan lammen (Seitteli) pikkusaaressa asuva naurulokkiyhdyskunta piti melkoista meteliä varsinkin silloin, kun varis lähestyi ja koko yhdyskunta nousi siivilleen. Arvioin niitä olleen noin 500, mutta yhtähyvin määrä voi olla 1000, niitä kun on vaikea laskea.

Then I drove to a familiar place, Rantamo in Tuusula (previous story), where the temperature had already risen to +4 degrees. However, the sun was pleasantly warm.

There weren’t many birds there, but the black-headed gull colony living on the small island in the pond on the right (Seitteli) made quite a noise, especially when the crow approached and the whole colony took to its wings. I estimated there were about 500 of them, but it could just as well be 1000, as they are difficult to count.

Naurulokkien joukosta löysin myös harmaalokin ja kalalokin.

Among the black-headed gulls, I also found an European herring gull and a Common gull.

Naurulokkisaaren ympärillä uiskenteli myös vesilintuja, esim. 2 laulujoutsenta, muutama nokikana, silkkiuikku ja useampi sinisorsa. Kaikki hakivat turvaa naurulokkiyhdyskunnasta petolintuja vastaan. Täällä on mahdollista usein nähdä merikotka saalistamassa lintuja, mutta tälle matkalle se ei osunut kameraan. Mutta tällä kertaa ohi lensi varpushaukka.

There were also waterfowl swimming around the Black-headed gull island, such as 2 Whooper swans, a few Coots, a Great crested grebe and several Mallards. All of them sought refuge in the Black-headed gull colony from birds of prey. It is often possible to see an White-tailed eagle hunting birds here, but on this trip it was not caught on camera. But this time a Sparrow hawk flew by.

Läheisissä puissa livertelivät pikkulinnut vaikka olikin melko kylmä aamu niille. Paikalla oli pajusirkkuja, pikkuvarpusia, västäräkkejä, peippo, sinitiainen ja talitiainen.

Small birds were chirping in the nearby trees, even though it was a rather cold morning for them. There were Common reed buntings, Eurasian tree sparrows, White wagtail, Chaffinch, Blue tit and Great tit.

Pidin hyvin ansaitun kahvitauon eli matkalle pitää aina ottaa hyvät eväät ja kuumaa kahvia, niin jaksaa koko reissun mainiosti.

Sitten siirryin vasemmanpuoleiselle lammelle (Rantamo) ja kun kävelin sinne välissä olevat muutaman sata metriä, niin kyllä pitivät kiurut upeaa soidin esitystä, kukin lintu pyrki laulamaan paremmin ja kuuluvammin kuin edellinen.

I took a well-deserved coffee break, meaning you should always take good snacks and hot coffee on the trip, so you can handle the whole trip just fine.

Then I moved to the pond on the left (Rantamo) and when I walked the few hundred meters in between, the larks gave a wonderful musical performance, each bird trying to sing better and louder than the last.

Kiuru nousee maasta ilmaan laulaen, nousee jopa muutaman kymmenen metrin korkeuteen ja siellä pyörii sekä levittää ilosanomaa ympärillään olevalle peltoaukealle ja sitten sitten laskeutuu takaisin pellolle lepäämään hetkeksi.

The Eurasian skylark rises from the ground into the air singing, rises to a height of up to a few dozen meters, circles there, spreading the good news to the surrounding field, and then lands back in the field to rest for a while.

Vasemmalla on hieno iso lampi myös ja siellä oli laulujoutsen pariskunta lepäämässä, yksi kanadanhanhi lähti juuri lentoon.

There is a nice big pond on the left as well and there was a pair of Whooper swans resting there, one Canada goose just took off.

Paikalle laskeutui 9 valkovikloa, mutta ne jäivät siten penkereen taakse, ettei niistä saanut valokuvaa.

Lammessa uiskenteli myös muutama sinisorsa, yli lensi muutama valkoposkihanhi ja varis raakkui kauempana. Yksittäisiä naurulokkeja lenteli jatkuvasti viereisen pellon yläpuolella.

9 Common greenshanks landed there, but they were so far behind the embankment that I couldn’t get a photo of them.

A few Mallards were also swimming in the pond, a few Barnacle geese flew over, and a Carrion crow cawed further away. Individual Black-backed gulls were constantly flying above the adjacent field.

Tuusulassa näin seuraavat linnut: 500 naurulokki, 50 tundrahanhi, 30 valkoposkihanhi, 9 valkoviklo, 7 sinisorsa, 6 pikkuvarpunen, 5 pajusirkku, 4 nokikana, 4 laulujoutsen, 2 västäräkki, 2 kanadanhanhi, 2 talitiainen, töyhtöhyyppä, kalalokki, harmaalokki, silkkiuikku, varpushaukka, varis, sinitiainen, peippo.

In Tuusula I saw the following birds: 500 Black-backed gull, 50 Greater white-fronted goose, 30 Barnacle goose, 9 Common greenshank, 7 Mallard, 6 Eurasian tree sparrow, 5 Common reed bunting, 4 Coot, 4 Whooper swan, 2 White wagtail, 2 Canada goose, 2 Great tit, Northern lapwing, Common gull, Herring gull, Great crested grebe, Sparrow hawk, Carrion crow, Blue tit, Chaffinch.
